Established in 1939, the Commerce Division has a rich history of providing business education. It offers nine courses from National Certificate to Higher National Diploma, with a team of 50 staff members (44 lecturers, 6 support). The division is committed to producing highly competent graduates with technical and entrepreneurial skills.

Set up in 1939 at the old Caledonian Hall (Angwa Street), the department initially offered Accountancy and Secretarial courses. In 1958, courses expanded to include Chartered Institute of Secretaries, Bookkeeping, Chartered Accountancy, Typewriting, and Institute of Bankers. The 1960s saw the introduction of professional courses (British Institute of Transport, British Institute of Management, Cost and Works Accountants) and even a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1962). After independence, it became the Department of Business Education, now the Commerce Division with two departments: Business Studies and Management Studies.

The School of Office Management is devoted to management consultancy and training. Our practical training programmes are designed to enhance organisational dynamic capabilities in delivering various services. We strive to be the training provider that organisations can depend on for all their Office Management training needs. In response to the National vision of a knowledge-driven middle-income economy by 2030, the department is making great strides in fulfilling its mandate according to the NDS1 Document and the Education 5.0 philosophy. It is engaged in various projects and currently running a Small Reprography Business Unit, offering practical learning experience to students and staff.
